Danika Bazant, MA, RCC

Welcome.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals, children, and families across a variety of settings, including public mental health, substance use treatment, non-profit organizations, and private practice.

Today, I specialize in working with adults (18+) who are navigating the impacts of trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, anxiety, and long-standing patterns that no longer serve them. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, heal from difficult experiences, and move toward lives that feel more authentic, connected, and meaningful.

Why I Became a Therapist

Long before I became a counsellor, I was fascinated by people and the stories they carry.

As a young adult, I spent time travelling and became increasingly curious about how people make sense of their experiences, relationships, cultures, and identities. That curiosity eventually led me through a decade of work in hospitality, criminal justice, social services, and non-profit organizations, where I had the privilege of working alongside people from many different walks of life.

Today, I continue to learn not only through my professional work, but also through my experiences as a parent, caregiver, partner, and community member. These roles have deepened my appreciation for both the challenges and resilience that are part of being human.

How I Work

My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth, while also being informed by neuroscience, attachment theory, and evidence-based trauma treatment.

I believe that many of the struggles that bring people to therapy are not signs that something is wrong with them. Rather, they are often understandable adaptations to difficult experiences, relationships, or circumstances.

I primarily use EMDR, somatic therapy, and attachment-focused approaches to help clients understand the root of what is troubling them and create meaningful, lasting change. Along the way, I may also offer practical tools to help regulate the nervous system, improve communication, strengthen boundaries, and develop greater self-understanding.

Training & Experience

I have been a Registered Clinical Counsellor since 2014 and hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria.

My professional experience includes:

  • 10 years working within public mental health services

  • 3 years in residential substance use treatment

  • 5+ years in private practice

I have extensive experience supporting helping professionals, first responders, and public service employees. I am also an Occupationally Aware Clinician and completed graduate research exploring barriers that first responders face when accessing mental health support.

Approaches that inform my work include:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Somatic Attachment Therapy

  • Integrated Body Psychotherapy (IBP)

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Polyvagal Theory

I am a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and remain committed to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

What Therapy With Me Feels Like

Clients often describe me as warm, relatable, and direct.

I strive to create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself while also feeling supported and challenged when needed. Together, we will identify your goals, regularly check in on your progress, and adapt our work as your needs evolve.

Some clients prefer traditional weekly therapy, while others benefit from extended EMDR sessions or intensive therapy formats. My role is to help you determine the approach that best fits your goals, capacity, and circumstances.

Therapy is not about fixing you. It is about understanding yourself more deeply, healing what has been hurting, and creating space for the life you want to live.

Life-long learning is a passion of mine. I am continually immersed in ongoing education to expand my skills and expertise, as well as my own therapeutic work to continue on my own personal growth journey. I also consult with various other psychological professionals (EMDR and somatic experts/consultants) to ensure that I am providing the best service possible.

As a person of European settler ancestry, I humbly acknowledge my great privilege to live, work and play on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw (Coast Salish) peoples.
