Trauma & PTSD
Understanding Trauma
Trauma is not simply what happened to us—it is how our nervous systems responded to experiences that felt overwhelming, frightening, or too much to cope with at the time.
Sometimes trauma develops following a single distressing event. Other times, it emerges through repeated experiences such as difficult relationships, chronic stress, emotional neglect, bullying, or growing up in environments where we did not consistently feel safe, seen, or supported.
When trauma remains unresolved, it can continue to influence how we think, feel, relate to others, and move through the world. We may find ourselves reacting in ways that once helped us survive but no longer serve us in the present.
Are you...
Feeling triggered, overwhelmed, or emotionally reactive in ways that don't make sense to you?
Struggling to move past something that happened, even though it occurred years ago?
Avoiding situations, people, or opportunities because of fear, anxiety, or self-doubt?
Feeling stuck in patterns that interfere with the life you want to be living?
Carrying painful experiences that continue to affect your relationships, confidence, or sense of self?
If so, you are not alone.
Many people come to therapy knowing that something is getting in the way of living the life they want, but feeling unsure how to move forward.
How Therapy Can Help
Healing from trauma is not about forgetting the past. It is about helping your mind and body recognize that the difficult experiences are no longer happening now.
Together, we can work to:
Reduce feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional reactivity
Process painful memories and experiences
Develop a greater understanding of your nervous system and trauma responses
Strengthen self-confidence and self-trust
Improve relationships and communication
Create more freedom, flexibility, and choice in your life
EMDR & Somatic Therapy
My primary approach to trauma treatment is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), supported by somatic and attachment-focused therapies.
EMDR helps the brain and nervous system process experiences that have become "stuck," reducing the emotional intensity of distressing memories and helping you move forward with greater ease.
I also incorporate somatic approaches that help you reconnect with your body, increase nervous system regulation, and develop a deeper understanding of your own internal experiences.
Whether through traditional weekly therapy, extended EMDR sessions, or intensive formats, my goal is to help you move beyond survival and toward a life that feels more connected, meaningful, and authentic.
